Feeding Behaviour

back

Activity Dynamics

Stomoxys calcitrans may be abundant in and around farm buildings and stables in late summer. Both sexes are blood-feeders and often ingest small blood meals several times a day. After feeding, the flies move to a resting site. Adults prefer strong sunlight, but will follow animals into buildings to feed.

The transmission of Trypanosoma evansi in dogs occurs mechanically.
