Veterinary and medical importance of ticks is mainly determined by their capability of disease transmission.
The following diseases have been reported to be transmitted by ticks:
- Lyme borreliosis, Borrelia burgdorferi s.l.
- Canine babesiosis, Babesia spp.
- Ehrlichiosis, Ehrlichia spp.
- Anaplasmosis, Anaplasma spp.
- Hepatozoonosis, Hepatozoon spp.
